Friends of Sierra Leone will hold its 2019 annual meeting from July 19th through the 21st. The first two days are at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Washington DC and the last day is in the morning of the 21st at the Smithsonian African Art Museum. There will be social events on Friday and Saturday nights. There is no registration fee although we will accept donations to offset expenses. Participants will pay their own expenses at the evening events.
We will Skype with Amb. Brewer, US Ambassador to Sierra Leone. Amb. Wai, Sierra Leone Ambassador to the US will speak to us as well. Author and RPCV SL Sam Hill will tell us about his recent trip to SL when he walked around the Kenema District visiting places he lived and worked in as a volunteer. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, previous Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs in the Department of State's Bureau of African Affair will speak to us on Saturday. She is now a senior counselor at Albright Stonebridge Group in Washington. Madieu Williams, former NFL player and recipient of the Walter Payton Man of the Year during the 2011 Super Bowl will join us again. He his currently finishing law school. Madieu has a Foundation that he will update us on. He joined at our last meeting in DC and we all throughly enjoyed his talk and his company. Other participants will be announced as they are added. Additionally we will have our business meeting. The last morning is a group tour of the Smithsonian African Art Museum.
